Bulgarian companies are losing large sums of money from scams with a changed email and bank account, Senior Commissioner Vladimir Dimitrov, head of the Cybercrime Directorate, said in Sofia.

In front of an international forum against cybercrime, Dimitrov emphasized that the cases of fraud with changed bank account numbers are most often related to Nigerian criminal groups that enter the e-mails of Bulgarian companies
The scams are usually for amounts up to €50,000. Criminals manage to find out the username and passwords in the mailboxes of the companies through phishing emails and thus gain access to their correspondence in order to manipulate it.

Most often, phishing attacks use as cover offers for investments in various fake projects or buying cars.
