Professor Georgi Valchev from the Faculty of Philosophy of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is the new, 57th rector of the oldest university in Bulgaria. He was elected in a runoff with Academician Nikolay Vitanov from the Faculty of Physics. 198 of the delegates to the General Assembly voted for Professor Valchev, and 152 for Academician Vitanov.
