The cameras of the National Toll Office can now detect drivers’ speed with the help of a new software. Speeding is monitored by 295 cameras in BG Toll's control centre, BG Toll Director Georgi Temelkov said for BNT. The cameras cover the whole country and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Speed detection has been possible since the introduction of the toll system, which is one of the most advanced in Europe, explained Georgi Temelkov.

The system is integrated with Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior, the National Customs Agency and the National Revenue Agency, i.e. there is constant monitoring and control by the institutions, Georgi Temelkov went on to say. Georgi Temelkov expects that the issuance of fines to violators will begin within 4 months. This will happen after the adoption by Parliament of an amendment to the Road Traffic Act, for which the MPs have full agreement.
