Municipal council in Sofia blocked again, cannot elect chairman

Today's meeting of the Sofia Municipal Council lasted only 15 minutes. 56 out of 57 councilors voted once again to postpone the election of the Municipal Council chairman. That was the only item on the agenda.

The next election is scheduled for January 25.

The failure was expected after the negotiations with the mayor Vasil Terziev, at which no majority was formed. Only "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria", "Save Sofia" (PP-DB-SS), "There is such a people", "Blue Sofia" and VMRO took part in the talks.  GERB-SDS, BSP and Vazrazhdane were absent.

Municipal councilor Boris Bonev stated that if a chairman is not elected on January 25, there should be new elections for the municipal council.

Mayor Terziev said that without GERB-SDS or BSP there will be no stable governance.

BSP have rejected the possibility of coalition with PP-DB-SS.
