Switzerland to remove air border controls for Bulgaria and Romania

Passport checks at Swiss airports for people traveling to and from Bulgaria and Romania will be removed from March 31. The Swiss government has agreed to follow the EU's decision of December 30 to lift border controls by air and sea for Bulgaria and Romania, reported BTA. Controls will remain in place at land borders.

Switzerland, a member of the Europe’s passport-free Schengen zone, also accepts that Romania and Bulgaria will be able to issue their own Schengen visas themselves, the Swiss government announced. "The experience of Croatia’s accession to the Schengen Area on January 1, 2023 has shown that a decision of this kind does not lead to a marked increase in immigration'', swissinfo.ch reported.
