Officials, VP Iotova pay tribute to 12 children killed in Lim River bus tragedy

Children, students, rescuers, Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova and the Prime Ministers of Serbia and Montenegro paid tribute to the 12 children who died in the waters of the Lim River 20 years ago, BNR envoy Daniel Inkov reported. 

A commemorative ceremony and prayer were held at the Angels of Lim memorial. According to the Bulgarian Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, Georgi Dimitrov, had it not been for the rescuers who came immediately, 38 more people would have died. The rescuers tied ropes to the bus and pulled the children out of the river.

The tragedy happened as the children were returning from a school trip to Dubrovnik. The driver lost control of the bus, which plunged into a ravine swollen by heavy rain and sank within minutes.
