Bulgaria is ahead of many countries in the world in terms of representation of women in parliament, as well as in high positions in the corporate sector. This was stated in Sofia by the former Secretary of State of the United States, Hillary Clinton. She came to the Bulgaria capital for a special meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative.

The forum brings together global leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss ways to support women's economic advancement. Among the guests in the Bulgarian capital was the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, as well as the wife of the former Prime Minister of Great Britain - Cherie Blair.

"It is a pleasure to be in Sofia again," said Hillary Clinton in her opening remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting. The former first lady, who is visiting Bulgaria for the third time, emphasized the role of the forum in supporting young women around the world to get an education.

Women around the world on average receive 24% lower wages than men for the same job position, Clinton said, and highlighted the extremely low representation of women in senior management positions in the corporate sector.

However, Bulgaria was given by the 67th Secretary of State of the United States as a good example:

"It is extremely appropriate that we are having this discussion here in Bulgaria, because as a country from Europe, a country from the European Union, you surpass many countries in the world in terms of representation of women in parliaments and in corporate positions," said Clinton.

The Sofia meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative is part of a series of events to create new partnerships before the Annual Meeting in New York on September 23 and 24.
