The quality of the sea water is good, said interim Environment Minister Petar Dimitrov in Varna. He explained that monitoring of the waters continued to be very strict, with Bulgarian authorities exchanging information with institutions in Romania and Ukraine.

The Ministry of Health was also monitoring bathing water quality on a daily basis and its data was also good, Dimitrov said. He added that he had instructed the country's regional environmental and water inspectorates to carry out checks for illegal waste dumps, while coastal directorates should also check for illegal sewage discharges into the sea.

The minister also said that efforts should be made to restore the country's irrigation systems, which are of paramount importance in times of climate change and drought.
