Bulgarians became world vice-champions in school debating

Bulgaria became the vice-champion in student debating at the World Schools Debating Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, at the end of July.

68 countries participated in the tournament, including the USA, Qatar, China, and our competitors beat traditionally strong debating countries, including the recent 2023 World Champions, Canada.

"We only lost to Scotland, we are happy with our performance. The challenge was the responsibility of representing Bulgaria," Tanya Anastasova, one of the students, told BNR Radio Sofia. According to student Valentin Katsarov, the skills they develop as debaters help them a lot in school and in life - even with having to read a lot and gain knowledge in different fields.

In 2025-2026 the next World Championships will be held in Sofia.
