18 Bulgarian competitors in six sport disciplines are to take part in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee announced.
The list of the Bulgarian delegation to Vancouver includes: Evgenia Radanova, Marina Georgieva-Nikolova, and Asen Pandov – short track; Alexandra Zhekova – snowboard; Kilian Albrecht, Stefan Georgiev, and Maria Kirkova – alpine skiing; Antonia Grigorova, Teodora Malcheva and Veselin Tsinzov –cross country; Krassimir Anev, Vladimir Iliev, Mihail Klechorov, Martin Bogdanov, Miroslav Kenanov and Nina Klenovska – biathlon; and Petar Iliev and Ivan Papukchiev - luge.

European and world club volleyball champion Trento, dubbed BG Trento by Italian fans because of its Bulgarian coach Radostin Stoichev and Bulgarian players Matey Kaziyski and Tsvetan Sokolov won the Cup of Italy. At the final, the team of Trento won 3:1 against the team of Cuneo, which includes Bulgarian national team captain Vladimir Nikolov.

Stanka Zlateva won the bronze at the “Ivan Yarigin” freestyle wrestling tournament in Krasnoyarsk. The Bulgarian Olympic silver medallist started the tournament with a victory in the 72kg category against Ukrainian Svetlana Sayenko, but lost against Russian Ekaterina Bukina at the quarterfinals. Bukina later won the cup, which gave Stanka Zlateva a chance for the bronze, which she managed to win. Stanka Zlateva is a 3-times world champion and 4 time’s European champion. At the “Ivan Yarigin” tournament besides with her adversaries Zlateva gad to cope with an ankle trauma as well.

The Bulgarian female basketball team of Dunav Ekont Express won the Ledenika Bulgaria Cup. At the final in Stara Zagora, the team from the town of Ruse won 108:65 against the former cup winners Montana 2003. The two teams played at last year’s final in Burgas when Dunav lost.

The Bulgarian basketball team of Levski won on home ground against the Serbian team of OKK Belgrade in the 7th round of the Balkan League. The blue team won 92:84, as Aaron Harper and Stefan Georgiev scored 21 points each for the Bulgarian champions. With five victories and 2 losses, Levski regained the first place in Group B of the Balkan League, while OKK Belgrade is second with the same number of victories but less scored points.

Bulgarian Tanyu Kiriakov placed fifth in the 10 m pistol competition of the international shooting tournament in Munich. The two-times Olympic champion entered the finals at second place with 583 points but then placed 5th with a total of 682.6 points. Vladimir Isakov from Russia was first with 690 points. Bulgarian Ivan Todorov won the gold at the youth rifle shooting competition.
