Radio concert brings together various generations of folk musicians

Recently, on the initiative of Radio Plovdiv, the BNR Studio 1 was the venue of a folk music concert that brought together generations of folk musicians. In Timeout for Music today we give the floor first to the youngest participants, winners in the BNR contest Young Talents in Folklore who made their first recordings for the national radio. Listen next to Yana Reaped in the rendition of Miglena Kisheva, and Pirin Chain Dance performed by Stoyan Mitrev, Emil Minkov and Marin Mitrev.

The spring folk music concert at BNR Studio No. 1 featured performances by students from the Academy of Music, Dance & Fine Art in the City of Plovdiv, Peperuda vocal quartet, famous Thracian singer Danislav Kehayov and Pirin singer Rumyana Filkova. The accompaniment of the concert program was delivered by the academic folk orchestra of the Academy of Music, Dance & Fine Art conducted by Vladimir Vladimirov. Listen next to Pazardjik Suite presented to honor the 90th birth anniversary of folklore composer Kosta Kolev. During his lifetime he wrote down 10,000 folk songs, arranged 6000 of them and joined many concerts in Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, France, Egypt and elsewhere.
In Radio Bulgaria’s Timeout for Music listen to the academic folk orchestra of the Academy of Music, Dance & Fine Art in Plovdiv conducted by Vladimir Vladimirov with Macedonian Chain Dance.

The folk music concert at the Bulgarian National Radio also honored the 85th birthday of Dobrudja singer Verka Siderova, a long-standing soloist of the acclaimed Filip Kutev Folk Ensemble in Sofia. Listen to Verka Siderova with the song Rosen, rosen from the BNR archives. The song was arranged by Kosta Kolev, who conducted the piece.

The spring folk music concert at the Bulgarian National Radio featured the collection Sredna Gora Folk Songs with the cream of the repertoire of singer Tinka Neicheva from the village of Panicheri in Sredna Gora, Southern Bulgaria. The folk songs in that region provide a mix of Balkan, Thracian and Western patterns. Tinka Neicheva has collected the songs for the young talents in Bulgarian folk music. The collection includes some specific regional folklore rites and rituals. For it Neicheva teamed up with composer Todor Prashtakov. Listen to Stoyan Rebel from the repertoire of Tinka Neicheva.

In Timeout for Music on Radio Bulgaria we bring you more from the spring folklore concert held at Studio No. 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio. Listen to one of the participants in it, Danislav Kehayov, a popular Thracian folk singer.

That was a love song featuring Danislav Kehayov. Finally, young Rumyana Filkova, from the region of Pirin Macedonia, Southwestern Bulgaria, with a humorist song, Old Man Ploughed.
