Zefira Valova has graduated Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music. She learnt from prominent Bulgarian violinist Yosif Radionov. Later Zefira did a master course with another renowned musician, namely Stoika Milanova and specialized Baroque music abroad. Only 27 years old, she is already enjoying international success. Here is more from her:

“My interest in baroque music emerged while I was a student. I owe it to Prof. Yosif Radionov, who is open-minded, extremely knowledgeable and well-informed on the latest developments on the world stage. At the time I was a concert master of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Our repertoire often revolved around Telemann’s suites and Vivaldi’s concertos for violin. We had harpsichord, too. My interest in the old masters grew and that somewhat naturally led to my specialization in the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music, the Netherlands, where I was taught by Lucy Van Dael, a leading figure in Baroque music. I am yet to finish my education”, Zefira told Radio Bulgaria.

Zefira Valova has been among the first Bulgarians to play in the European Union Baroque Orchestra. Back to her.

“The Baroque Orchestra changes members every year. Its function is to take young musicians to the stage. I had an audition 3 years ago. Violin player Ivan Iliev and I were the first Bulgarians in the orchestra’s history approved for participation. In December I am going to be the orchestra’s concert master. Flute player Alexis Kossenko, who was a soloist of the Baroque orchestra, will be conducting the formation.”

This September Zefira is going to play at an antique music festival in Utrecht, Germany. At present, she is channeling a great deal of energy to The Art of the Baroque Music Festival, which is going to take place in Sofia this autumn. The young musician is the festival’s artistic director. A couple of months ago The Art of the Baroque Music Festival was awarded Best Music Project for 2010 by the Bulgarian National Radio’s Allegro Vivace Programme. More from Zefira:

“We are preparing the programmes, envisaging a debut by newly-created Les Ambassadeurs Orchestra. The latter pays attention to the High Baroque or the 20-30s of the 18 century. We are going to offer many surprises. In terms of repertoire, we are presenting pieces created after the mid 19 century, when the style was quite different. We are seeking similarities and differences. I believe that would be of interest to the audience. I am also going to take part in chamber concerts, performing with cembalo player Aapo Hakkinen, conductor of Helsinki Baroque Orchestra. We are going to present Bach’s Piano Concertos in Jerusalem. “
