Today, Pomorie is of the most popular Bulgarian Black Sea resorts, welcoming thousands of tourists every summer. The town of Pomorie is famous not only for the beach and sun but also for the mud of the nearby lake, which has been known for its therapeutic qualities since the time of the ancient Thracians and Romans, and used for treatment. In 2007 the resort was named Bulgarian capital of spa tourism, under the initiative of several tourist organisations. According to Dragomir Naidenov of the Pomorie municipality, responsible for the tourism sphere, the resorts in the municipality were visited by 60,000 tourists during the past season.
