For eleven years in a row operatic diva Raina Kabaivabska who lives in Italy, has been visiting Bulgaria for her traditional master class. “I am always impatient to come to my motherland, especially when I am about to meet with the world’s young voices”, the famous singer admits. Before bringing you some more details, listen to her in an Aria of Mimi from La boheme by Giacomo Puccini.

The initiator and organizer of the master class for young opera singers led by Raina Kabaivanska, is New Bulgarian University. This year the class was held from 9 to 30 Sept. The number of applicants before the selection was sixty, a record of a kind. From them 39 are Bulgarians. Under the regulations of the class, once auditions are held, ten applicants are admitted as active performers, and three as listeners. Mrs. Kabaivanska held the class at the Sofia Opera House. Her task is to help young singers improve their technique and presentation on stage. “I love not only beautiful voices but also good acting”, Kabaivanska remarks. The best participants will be awarded scholarships from the Raina Kabaivabska Fund of New Bulgarian University raised by America for Bulgaria Foundation, a partner of the master class. Thanks to the foundation the project Raina Kabaivanska Presents Her Students on International Stage was launched last year. Four shows of the opera La boheme were presented back then at the Sofia Opera House jointly with Teatro Comunale from Modena, Italy. The main parts were given to Raina Kabaivanska students from her master classes in Sofia, Modena and Siena,

The gala of this year’s class was given on 30 Sept. It ended the diverse programme marking the 20th anniversary of New Bulgarian University. Finally, listen to Mira Radoeva, one of the active participants in Raina Kabaivanska’s class this year. This is the prayer of Maria Stewart from the opera Maria Stuarda by Gaetano Donizetti,
