Computer games have become a part of the lifestyles of millions of people. They can lead to addiction and they offer the opportunity for one to live their fantasies. It turns out that computer games made in Bulgaria have gained considerable popularity worldwide. A Bulgarian online game, entitled “Hanovete” or “The Khans” has become an extremely popular strategy in the World Wide Web. 24-year-old creator of the game Hristo Tenchev is the manager of one of the most successful computer game companies in Bulgaria.

It all started when Hristo Tenchev was still a student keen on computer games. Hristo remembers that online games became a hit back then but there were no Bulgarian online games, yet. I told my friends that I can create a similar game and in two weeks I created my first strategy game, Hristo says. At first only his friends played the game but soon about 10,000 players joined. This was how a successful enterprise started. Today, the company of Hristo Tenchev has released on the market 5 games, translated into 33 languages. These games are all popular abroad. Actually just 10% of the players come from Bulgaria.

“All games are played online and one does not need to buy a CD or install the game on their computer. A player could enter the game from anywhere in the world where there is Internet connection. The user just needs to register and the games are free. There are some optional achievements in the game that a user could pay for if he or she wanted to.”

The true success of the company came with The Khans. The gamer plays the role of an ancient ruler. “We included part of the Bulgarian history and the history of other 11 peoples in the game,” Hristo says. His company also decided to create a game that is more attractive to women and this is how Lady Popular emerged. The game started to gain even more popularity than the Khans but hristo has not stopped here and now he is working on a new ambitious project.
The Lady Popular game attracted millions of fashion fans across the world

“We are currently in the last stage of development of a new type of game that has not been developed in Bulgaria so far. It is a 3D online game that does not require installation One plays through their browser and could download the game to devices like iPad. This will be the first Bulgarian game of this type. The gameplay takes place in space and I hope this will become our biggest hit.”
