The construction of the Bulgarian resort Golden Sands began in 1956. Its architects however did not assume that the resort will turn into one of the most popular tourist destinations on the north Black Sea coast. It looks as if the name of the resorts came out of a fairytale, which tells stories about sea pirates and brave survivors of shipwrecks. Each summer now the resort attracts thousands of Bulgarian and foreign tourists.

There are legends about the name of one of Bulgaria’s most popular resorts. Everyone who was on a holiday there had an experience as in a real fairytale. The resort has many facilities for beach games for kids and adults. We should not miss the water parks there. Banana shape inflatable rubber boats jump across the sea waves, loaded with groups of girls and boys. Scooters, water wheels and water skis entice the tourists to share memorable summer emotions among the sea waves. There is fun in the sky above the beach too. Those who are looking for a thrill can borrow a parachute or a hang-glider or even make a trip with a helicopter. For the last few years there is an attraction in Golden sands, which makes the tourists feel as if they are in Paris. Just like the French capital there is a prototype of the Eiffel tower here. It is not as tall as the original one but if one uses his imagination he may hear an accordion playing one of the popular French songs. The tour guide Viktoria Balezdrova says that the mini Eiffel tower gives a feeling of a festive international atmosphere.

“The most interesting attraction on the Eiffel tower is a cafeteria, which lays 6 meters above ground. I recommend people to go there especially in the afternoon. Tourists have a perfect view of the sea and the lights of the resort from this altitude. There is a merry-go-round near the tower which also offers terrific view.”
The “Aquapolis” water park is also very popular here. Here people can cool down in the hot weather. That is why many parents take their children there. The regular tourists are used to the pirate attraction near the beach. There people can see 2 ships painted with pirate pictures. Passengers are also disguised as pirates- with tattoos, carton hats and other pirate motifs. Both crews fight with plastic bags full of water. Those who seek for a trip in the sea can hire a yacht.

“People hire yachts for a trip called” A Lazy day”, says Viktoria Balezdrova. “Tourists go further into the sea with those yachts. Some of them go fishing, others go just to swim in the deep sea. We organize many bus trips as well. Since 2011 we have expanded our destinations to the town of Sozopol at the south coast. Tourists can make a pedestrian march in the park near Golden Sands. It has few routes with different levels of difficulty. The routes though are well marked. One of them can take you to the Aladza monastery which dates back from the 12th century.”
Not far from Golden Sands is the other popular green resort Albena, which is called by many people the pearl of the Bulgarian seaside. Further north is the picturesque town of Balchik, also known as the “White town”. Those who seek for more cultural events can go to the sea capital of Varna! International summer festivals take place there each summer. Tourists can enjoy the performances of local and foreign opera and theatre groups there.
