EC follows SAPARD trial closely

The European Commission is expecting with interest the developments in the SAPARD trial at the next instance, the Commission’s Spokesman Mark Gray told the Bulgarian National Radio. He pointed out that the trial was among the key lawsuits watched closely by the European Commission for signs of progress in combating corruption and fraud with European funds. The statement has come in connection with the ruling on Friday of the Sofia Court of Appeal that acquitted all defendants in the lawsuit for laundering of 7.5 m euros siphoned from the European SAPARD programme. Defendants include businessmen Ludmil Stoykov and Mario Nikolov.
