Sports Roundup: Dimitar Berbatov has signed a contract with Monaco

Dimitar Berbatov has signed a contract with Monaco and is now a player of the team of the Principality. This is the sixth club in the career of the Bulgarian football star after CSKA, Leverkusen, Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham. During the past week in the French football championship Monaco reached a 2:2 draw against Lorient. The new team of Dimitar Berbatov is currently second in the first division of France. In the next round fans expect the derby between Monaco and Paris Saint- Germain and the debut of Berbatov with his new team. 
 
Bulgarian Emilia Yordanova placed 12th in the individual 15-km discipline at the Open European Biathlon Championship in the Czech winter sports center of Nove Mesto. Yordanova finished with four errors in her shooting. Champion in the discipline became Audrey Vaillancourt from Canada with two errors in the shooting. Second ranked Nastasya Kalina of Belarus and third placed Irina Kruko, also from Belarus. Among the men only Bulgarian Ivan Zlatev managed to place among the top 30 in the 20-km event. Zlatev took the 30-th place with five errors in the shooting. In Nove Mesto, Desislava Stoyanova finished 18th in the 7.5 km sprint.

 
A few days remain until the start of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Maria Kirkova will be bearer of the Bulgarian flag, the press center of the BOC announced. The alpine skiing athlete will carry the national flag during the official opening, which is scheduled for Friday, February 7. For Kirkova this will be the third participation in winter Olympics after Turin and Vancouver. In Sochi Maria Kirkova will participate in giant slalom and slalom events. 
 
Venelina Veneva placed third in the high jump event of the tournament in the Czech city of Trinec. Veneva achieved a result of 190 cm. Winner became Emma Green Tregaro (Sweden ) with a result of 197 cm, followed by Ana Simic (Croatia ) with 192 cm. Two days later, the second tournament of the Moravia High Jump Tour took place in the Czech city of Hustopeche and Venelina Veneva became fourth with a personal record for the season of 191 cm. 
 
Dennis Dimitrov was selected for Best Young Athlete of Bulgaria for 2013. A total of 52 young athletes representing 22 different sports participated in a poll and Dimitrov gathered 510 points from the votes of journalists. The 19-year-old sprinter is 28 points ahead of the second in the chart - basketball player Alexander Vezenkov. Wrestling champion Elitsa Iankova became third.
