Many foreign delegations including the Bulgarian one headed by President Rossen Plevneliev attended the ceremony for canonization of Popes John Paul II and John XXIII in the Vatican City. President Plevneliev described the day of the ceremony as a special day for all believers across the globe, especially for the Bulgarian people, because these two Saints have a strong relationship with Bulgaria. Let us always remember that one of them is called by many believers “the Bulgarian Pope”, Plevneliev reminded, bearing in mind that Pope John XXIII served for nearly ten years in Bulgaria as a legate. President Plevneliev called on the people to remember the holy deed of Pope John PaulII who cleared Bulgaria’s name with regard to the accusations against the country following the murder attempt against him. Pope John Paul II also gave the Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio Church in Rome to the Bulgarian ecclesiastical community to hold divine services there. During the ceremony in the Vatican City Bulgaria’s head of state met with the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of Hungary Janos Ader, the Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and Polish Premier Donald Tusk who also attended the event.
