A small village next to the old capital of Veliko Tarnovo turns into a rock stage thanks to Bulgarian political scientist Prof. Evgenyi Daynov. Each year this happens in the period 28 – 30 August in Mindya. The place got popular 6 years ago, when Evgenyi Daynov and his friends gathered well-known names of the rock and blues genre. Smaller and younger bands from the towns around joined them. The fest has grown over the past 6 years, the hosts invite now musicians from neighboring Balkan states, new Bulgarian formations join the event as well.

Prof. Evgenyi Daynov is a public figure, famous for his political analyses and comments. However, rock musicians also know him well – the man is a keen guitar player, who composes his own songs. His passion finds its place at Mindya Rock Fest. Locals have also contributed a lot to this music event, along with several Englishmen, who have opted for a life there. The Veliko Tarnovo municipality has been supporting the forum financially with a greater responsibility each year.

16 bands will play in the square of Mindya. People from the village will give hospitality to many participants and guests. We will listen now to a rendition of his Magistri (PhDs) band with their own song – Svoboda.

“On August 28 we kick off with renditions of student formations and amateur rock bands,” Mr. Daynov says for RB. “Young bands played for a first time last year in a contest for the big prize. It is a free professional recording of their own song. On Friday we continue with harder sounds: heavy metal. It will be presented by bands that this festival has never seen before. RICH COMPANY will be the headliners of the evening. I think this band is a phenomenon for the Bulgarian metal music. Guitar player and composer Roumen Antov is its front man – he has his own guitar school in Sofia, where many young instrumentalists study. On Saturday, August 30 we will close the 6th edition of Mindya Rock Fest with the usual blues and rock format. Vasko the Patch & Poduene Blues Band will be the main guests then. Of course, my formation Masters will play as well, along with the rock guys from the Horizont band. There will be foreign performers too – COTTON PICKERS from Serbia and Atlas from Turkey. I hope that the audience will be pleased with the program that we have prepared.”

For a first time Mindya Rock Fest will be shot on video. This will happen thanks to the rock musicians from the Turkish Atlas band, who come with their own shooting crew. The idea is the documentary to show and advertise not only their participation, but also the whole festival, as it will be screened across the Balkan countries.
