The official Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Kalin Kamenov opened the 31st Marathon of Sofia, which is traditionally held at the Vasil Levski National Stadium. This year the marathon in Sofia was held in support of the candidacy of the city for European Capital of Sport in 2017. Its organizers are the Sofia Municipality, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Kenyan Edwin Kipchumba won the marathon, covering the distance of 42.195 kilometers with unofficial time of 2:19.07 hours. After the final the winner received the champion’s wreath from Sofia Mayor Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova.
