The Bulgarian government will call on the European Commission to come up with a position over the termination of the South Stream gas pipeline project announced by the Russian side. Bulgaria expects its interests to be protected as it would be on the losing side if the project was terminated, announced Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev. During discussions with representatives of the European Commission, he insisted for maximum protection of Bulgarian interests, pointing out that Bulgaria will not conduct direct negotiations with Russia. Earlier today, the Commission’s spokesperson on energy Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said that there was no legal framework for compensations over termination of the South Stream gas pipeline project.
