Human Rights Watch calls for investigation into death of refugees on Bulgarian-Turkish border

Two Iraqis died as a result of hypothermia on the border between Bulgaria and Turkey after Bulgarian border guards beat them up when they tried to enter the country, the Human Rights Watch NGO has announced. The two men were part of a larger group of refugees. A year ago, Human Rights Watch reported about 44 incidents involving at least 519 people - Syrians and Afghans, who were stopped by Bulgarian border guards. "Bulgaria violates European and international law by refusing access to the procedure for obtaining asylum," the organization commented. Bulgaria denies the accusations and defines them as lies.
