Boris and Jenny are a couple of the fastest disappearing bird of prey species in Europe – the Egyptian Vulture. For the time being these nest in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains and take care of their offspring. This has become known thanks to signals sent by transmitters that the experts from the Bulgarian Bird-Protection Society have applied to the birds in a bid to monitor them since July. The two adult birds were caught under the Aid to the Egyptian Vulture Project with the help of foreign experts. Using information sent by transmitters will allow experts to have more clarity about nesting and the overall behavior of the birds. This will hopefully benefit the preservation of the Egyptian Vulture in Bulgaria. So far, transmitters have been applied to twenty Egyptian vultures in the Balkans. This number however is insufficient to trace their migration and explain their high mortality.
