Bulgaria must not abnegate its aviation, said General Miho Mihov, Chair of the National Assembly Defence Committee in a televised interview. He indicated that if the Defence Ministry proposal is approved, Bulgaria’s airspace will not be policed solely by the Bulgarian army but by allied forces. This clashes with the law on the passage and presence of allied and foreign forces on the territory of the country, General Mihov added. If the amendments to the law are carried through, there is a high probability of Turkish aircraft policing our airspace, he said. General Mihov added that the Bulgarian MiGs must be overhauled by Russia and not Poland so as to ensure flight safety, as the Polish side is not licenced to perform such work.
