On the World Day of commemoration of victims of road accidents and days after the bloody attacks in Paris on 13 November, the clergy and laity of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church prayed for the souls of all the innocent persons who died in road accidents, the victims of the Paris attacks, for the comfort of the relatives of those killed and for peace worldwide, the Holy Synod has announced.

A joint memorial service was held in the Sofia-based Alexander Nevski Cathedral in memory of those who died in traffic accidents and the victims of terrorist attacks in Paris. The World Day of Remembrance of the victims of road accidents wasobserved across the country with various events, including blood donation campaigns. Since the beginning of the year 602 people have been killed in road accidents.

His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Neophyte gave his prayers for peace. "We suffer with those who suffer and seek the power of the Lord to prevent such cruel and difficult events from happening again. The Lord has left us his peace. We will always be peacemakers and will try to live in peace, because this is the greatest good in our earthly life," said Patriarch Neophyte.
