A wall that was once part of the ancient Odeon was unearthed during reconstruction work on Vassil Aprilov Boulevard in Plovdiv. The wall is yet to be studied by archaeologists. The fact that there was an Odeon in the centre of the ancient city is reason enough to believe that in the 1st - 4th century Plovdiv was a major cultural and political centre. The building initially functioned as city hall but later came to be used for staging plays. Archaeologists are planning to start fortification work of the ancient building very soon - most of all the reconstruction of the seats in the open-air theatre, as the old wooden ones are unfit for use. The ancient Odeon was reconstructed ten years ago. It seats around 100 and can house chamber events.
