Former Chairman of the 38th National Assembly of Bulgaria and Minister of the Interior Yordan Soklov passed away at the age of 83. Parliament bowed in a minute of silence to pay tribute to the politician.

Current Parliament Chair Tsetska Tsacheva, addressing MPs on the occasion, pointed out that Sokolov’s contribution to democratic progress in this country and his role along Bulgaria’s European road of development will always be remembered and honoured by the public. He will be remembered as one of the wisest, most mature and responsible statesmen of the transition period in Bulgaria, Tsacheva added.

A lawyer by profession Yordan Sokolov was member of the 37th, 38th and 39th National Assemblies.
