Europe is disunited, torn by contradictions and lacking a vision for the future, said the President of the Party of European Socialists and former prime minister of Bulgaria Sergei Stanishev. He joined a public discussion in Sofia on the left-wing reform plan. Participants in the forum included former Bulgarian prime ministers Plamen Oresharski and Simeon Saxe-Coburg, MEPs, Bulgarian Socialist Party MPs, Deputy PM Ivaylo Kalfin and the leaders of the largest trade unions, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and Podkrepa Labor Confederation. “This era spells the end of the neoliberal world that used to dominate Europe’s civilization and political affairs over the last 30 years”, Stanishev said. “The new era is really global in all its dimensions, not only in economy – a world is coming of education and digital economy, of interactive communication and media”, he added. For the socialists the answer is “more Europe” that goes back to traditional values such as justice and solidarity, a welfare state and peace, PES leader Sergei Stanishev also said.
