Bulgarian gas hub not currently discussed in Moscow: Alexander Novak

The issue of a Bulgarian gas hub is not currently discussed in Moscow, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told the Bulgarian National Radio. “Moscow has heard about Bulgaria’s idea to set up a gas hub from the media but the idea has not been presented officially to Russia, so there is no ongoing discussion on this issue”, he explained. Novak also told the BNR correspondent in Moscow that the concept of a gas hub was vague, given that there was no pipeline leading to that site. He added that without South Stream across the Black Sea no such hub was possible. The Russian energy minister also commented that Moscow was not mulling the option of a gas route towards Bulgaria and pointed to the South Stream pipeline project which, according to him had been terminated not by Russia but at the initiative of the European Commission. Novak said that the only gas project with strong chances to be implemented was the North Stream 2 gas pipeline project.
