Speaking at the 14th Gas Infrastructure Europe Annual Conference underway in Sofia PM Boyko Borissov said that construction of the Bulgaria–Turkey gas interconnector would begin in the coming two weeks. The prime minister pointed out that gas supply diversification had been discussed for years but only now some practical steps were being made with the new compressor stations built by the country so that gas could flow in both directions. The Director of Bulgartransgas Georgi Gegov said that six gas projects run by the company were defined by the European Commission as investments of particular importance for the security of natural gas supplies to Europe. One of the projects is the extension of the gas repository at Chiren worth more than 220 million euro.
