Plovdiv is the center of events celebrating the 1885 Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia. At the Holy Virgin Cathedral Plovdiv Metropolitan Nikolay held a solemn church service. In his speech he called for wisdom in today’s troubled world. Wreathes were laid at the monument of Zahari Stoyanov, one of the key leaders of the powerful Plovdiv Unification movement. Tonight the Rodolyubie (Patriotism) Committee will present a reenactment of the events that took place in Plovdiv 131 years ago. The culmination of celebrations is a military tattoo ceremony from 8:30 pm.
