Nine customs officers have been detained at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint with Turkey on suspicion of involvement in corruption schemes for smuggling migrants across the border.
“Searches are underway in four towns in the region of Haskovo in Southern Bulgaria and more arrests are forthcoming,” said Rumyana Arnaudova, spokesperson for the prosecutor-general.
