In a letter to PM Boyko Borissov, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has said that from January the Commission plans to extend the scope of the cooperation and verification mechanism regarding Bulgaria. So far Bulgaria’s efforts to fight corruption and organized crime have shown the need of action in the phases of prevention, investigation, prosecution and court rulings. In his letter Juncker has voiced hopes that Bulgaria will continue the course of reforms and will become ready to leave the verification mechanism applied by the incumbent European Commission before the end of its mandate in 2019.
