Bulgaria has seen a trend of a rise in the incidence of cancers with both women and men, Prof. Zdravka Valerianova, head of the National Cancer Register, told the Bulgarian National Radio. There are 37,000 new cancer cases per annum that cause the death of 17 to 18 percent of patients. The rise in the numbers of new cancer cases is due to the lack of lasting prophylaxis, Prof. Valerianova explained. Worldwide, there are 14 million new cancer cases per annum and about 7-8 million deaths from the disease. This suggests that Bulgaria is somewhere in the middle of the chart.
