The results from the national referendum initiated by showman Slavi Trifonov and held alongside the presidential elections on 6 November are not mandatory, the Central Election Commission has announced.
The referendum results cannot be mandatory because the number of people who cast their ballots is below the threshold of 3,500,585 voters which means it is 12,000 votes short. The questions on the referendum ballot were: “Do you support a majority voting system for MPs by an absolute majority in two rounds?”, “Do you support the introduction of compulsory voting at elections and referendums?” and “Do you support the reduction of the annual state subsidy granted to parties and coalitions down 1 Lev for each valid vote received at the last general election?”
