A state of emergency has been declared in Hitrino  by order of Shoumen regional governor Donka Ivanova and will remain in place until the tank disposal operation is over, as announced by Milka Pavlova, spokesperson for the regional administration after a meeting of the crisis headquarters.
The situation in the evacuated village has grown more complicated after it was ascertained that two of the total of four freight train tanks are leaking gas. This is making it more difficult to drain the fuel and secure the area. The village is a restricted area.
The inhabitants of Hitrino have been put up with friends or relatives, with only 14 being accommodated at the crisis centre in Shoumen, 3 of them children, the Shoumen police press centre reports.
