EU adopts new common law of weapons restraint

Photo: Svetoslav Kostov

A new common European law of weapons restraint was negotiated in Brussels between the EU institutions. The text of the new legislation was subject to disputes between the national governments and the European Parliament for one whole year since the terrorist attack in Paris in November 2015, the correspondent of the Bulgarian National Radio to Brussels Nikola Miladinov reported. The possession of certain types of semi-automatic snub-nosed and long range weapons was banned for civilians. Some of the most-dangerous models of weapons will be obtained by sportsmen and hunters only under stringent rules and procedures set by the competent sport federations. Each dealer and manufacturer of weapons in Europe will mark the main parts of these weapons with special signs and those signs will be introduced in the electronic system for information exchange between the Police Services of all 28 EU member states. Thus, each weapon would be tracked easier. The new EU directive is expected to be enforced in the beginning of 2017.
