The minimum monthly salary in Bulgaria will be raised to EUR 235 on January 1, 2017, which is 9.5% more as compared to 2016. Thus, job seekers will be more motivated to join the labor market. Moreover, the employees who receive the minimum monthly salary would be more able to meet their needs. The increase of the minimum wages is expected to reduce the poverty risk among employed Bulgarians. The minimum hourly rate will become EUR 1.42. In 2017 the poverty line in Bulgaria will be set at EUR 160.55, which is EUR 7.16 more as compared to 2016.
