Transparency International: Bulgaria remains the most corrupt EU member

Bulgaria is 75th out of 176 countries and the most backward of all 28 members of the European Union, reads the Corruption Perceptions Index 2016 published by "Transparency International". According to Kalin Slavov, CEO of "Transparency without Borders", the Bulgarian branch of "Transparency International", this country quite expectedly placed below average level in the study. According to him, the most affected by corruption sector in Bulgaria is the judicial system, followed immediately by the legislature. The study points out that corruption usually increases during governments of populist leaders.
