Confidence towards Borissov 3 cabinet is at 32%: Gallup International

The confidence towards Bulgaria’s new cabinet formed by GERB and the United Patriots is at 32%. The level of confidence towards the country’s government is close to the one of Borissov 2 cabinet. Meanwhile, 55% of the Bulgarians show mistrust towards the Borissov 3 cabinet, which is slightly lower as compared to the usual levels measured in the past two years (around 60%), data of the latest national public opinion survey of the political and economic index made by Gallup International sociological agency shows. The survey was published this week. The sociological agency notes that the Bulgarian cabinet can enjoy a relatively good initial comfort, although that comfort is lower as compared to previous mandates. However, the Bulgarian society is yet to form its initial impressions of the current government in the coming weeks and months, the survey further shows. Traditionally, mistrust towards the institutions in Bulgaria is higher than the confidence, but in the beginning of every new mandate the situation is always more favorable for those institutions.

According to Gallup International, the caretaker cabinet brought some relief and mistrust towards the cabinet decreased from over 60% during the end of the Borissov 3 cabinet to nearly and just over 50% now.

Confidence towards the National Assembly at the beginning of its mandate is lower than the confidence towards the cabinet-24%. 66% of the respondents showed mistrust towards the Parliament. According to Gallup, however, the level of confidence towards the current Parliament is higher as compared to the confidence measured in the recent years. The sociological agency reminds that during the mandate of the caretaker cabinet confidence towards the National Assembly increased. Meanwhile, the negative attitude towards that institution decreased from above 70% during the mandate of the previous regular government to below 70% now.

In the beginning of May 30% of the respondents are optimistic about the development of Bulgaria, while 53% of the surveyed nationals showed pessimism. Although pessimism traditionally prevails, the number of people with positive assessments and attitude has been on the rise in the recent years, the sociologists form Gallup International agency contend.
