The first direct vote for Supreme Judicial Council today failed to elect new council members though the turnout was high and the prosecutors will cast their votes again tomorrow.
To be elected, 4 of the 12 candidates should to have won 50 + 1 percent of the votes of all prosecutors eligible to vote. Six of the 12 candidates came close to the threshold that would have made their election legitimate. 1,185 prosecutors out of a total of 1,503 cast their vote today, most chose to vote electronically.
The vote will be repeated tomorrow, from 8 AM until 6 PM, and the 4 candidates with the greatest number of votes, whatever the percentage, will be elected to the Supreme Judicial Council.
