Village tourism on rise: trend

The Association of Bulgarian Villages quoted by Dnevnik has reported a 15% rise in village tourism in Bulgaria year-on-year. This is based on accommodation statistics from the Association. August is likely to be a strong month for this emerging sector with bookings reaching 85% of the capacity of sites.

Village tourism in Bulgaria has grown steadily in recent years based on a wealth of nature, architecture and heritage sites. Tourists are attracted by the clean nature and food and are tempted to get in touch with the authentic Bulgarian traditions. Further, the Association points to the role of diverse services that village tourism can offer to its lovers.

On average about 80% of tourists in villages Bulgarians but this summer has seen a growing number of guests from Russia, Germany, France and neighboring Romania. The regions where village tourism development looks very strong are Veliko Tarnovo, Lovech, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Bkagoevgrad and Smolyan. The regions of Sliven, Shumen and Ruse boast a remarkable but untapped potential in this branch of Bulgarian tourism.
