Bulgarian Deputy PM Simeonov pays visit to Plovdiv over tensions in Roma quarter

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Valeri Simeonov will be following closely the execution of measures aimed at calming tensions in the Romani neighborhood of Sheker Mahala in the city of Plovdiv this evening, authorities reported.

The visit to Plovdiv comes days after the minister’s meeting with residents of the Todor Kableshkov residential area, who have been protesting for years against systematic violation of public order and illegal activities taking place in the Roma neighborhood.

Deputy Prime Minister Simeonov has already announced a series of measures to calm tensions. Actions will be taken to eliminate illegal buildings, too. Minister Simeonov added.
