Tapping of police, magistrates and journalists’ phones in Bulgaria confirmed

The head of the National Bureau for Control of Special Intelligence Means, Boyko Rashkov, has confirmed that were cases of unauthorized use of special intelligence means against politicians, magistrates and journalists. When asked if this was done for the purposes of intimidation, pressure or blackmail, he answered positively. The comments came after the State Agency for National Security denied access to classified information to Deputy Chair of the Bureau, Georgi Gatev. According to information from the investigation, the request for the measure was due to relations of Gatev with an judge whose phone was tapped and who was rapporteur in a case against businessman and leader of the Volya party Veselin Mareshki.
