Firefighters taking control over Kresna Gorge fire

Firefighter continue combating the fire that was raging in the Pirin Mountain and it is expected that it would be completely extinguished by Monday night, Mayor of Kresna Municipality Nikolay Georgiev has told the BNR.

More than 600 people have been fighting the fire, it was reported. The military also takes part in firefighting. A total of 16,000 decares have been affected by the fire raging for four days in southwestern Bulgaria.

Experts say that decades will be needed in order for the forest to be restored.
