The free-trade agreement between the EU and Canada, known as CETA comes into force as of today. The document was approved by the member countries within the frameworks of the European Council and voted by the European Parliament. It will be fully enforced after being ratified by the parliaments of all countries of the community.
After CETA is enforced, there will be a growth in the export of commodities by Bulgarian companies, said economist Petar Ganev in an interview for the BNR. He stressed that this will take place even though Canada can never be Bulgaria’s biggest or principal trade partner, as our policy is targeted at Europe. According to Ministry of the Economy data, Bulgaria’s exports to Canada for 2016 amounted to USD 38.5 million and its imports – to USD 52.4 million.
