National Ombudsman Maya Manolova has submitted a petition to the European Commission in protection of Bulgarian consumers against double standards in the food industry. This pertains to cases when the products of the same brands are sold with different quality in different countries of the European Union. The National Ombudsman institution has demanded new European regulations for controlling food quality. Ms Maya Manolova has already met for talks with European ombudsmen so that they would unite in their demand for new consumer protection regulations. Manolova however has said that the first results are not encouraging given that the so-called foods for the poor are harmless and many believe that their ban is useless.
