The state has proposed to reduce next year the compensation for the first three days of sick leave, paid by the employer, from 70 to 50% of the normal wage. Money for mothers will be raised next year - from the current 170 euros to a level of 190 euros.

These parameters are written in the draft state budget for the sector of social security. The document is due to be reviewed by the National Social Security Institute. The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria immediately voiced their opinion against a reduction of the sick leave compensation for the first 3 days of absence.

The CITUB also announced that they were organizing a national protest in Sofia on October 27th. The main demand is at least 10% wage rise in the budget sectors and a rise of wages in the real economy, while preserving internship and experience class.
