MPs pass Criminal Code amendments targeting radical Islam

The Bulgarian Parliament has passed at first reading amendments to the Criminal Code aimed to curb radical Islam. The bill of amendments has been submitted by the United Patriots.

The changes envisage one to five years of imprisonment for preaching radical Islam or other ideologies using religious faith for political purposes and against the constitutional order in the country.

Amendments also envisage imprisonment up to 4 years and a fine up to 5000 eurofor coercion or financial incentivesoffered for wearing of clothesthat cover partially or completely the face of a person.
